The Glen Oaks Community College volleyball team embarked on the 2025-26 at the Opening Weekend Tournament in Rockford, Ill., finishing 1-3 over the course of two days of play.
On Saturday, the Vikings opened with a 25-14, 25-14, 24-26, 25-10 loss to John Wood Community College before suffering a 25-27, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 defeat against Illinois Valley.
Glen Oaks fought hard in the first match of Sunday's action, extending things to five sets but eventually falling to Bay College, 18-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 15-1. The squad bounced back in its final match of the tourney, knocking off Elgin in four sets, 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18.
Sophomores Keegan Russell and Kylie Quist led GOCC with 39 kills apiece, while freshmen Maddie Osburn and Bekah Beachey finished with 27 and 21, respectively. Beachy also led the squad with 14 service aces over the course of the four matches, and Osburn tallied 54 assists. Jaelyn Sundberg was next in line with 33 assists.
Defensively, Braylyn Hernandez came away with 53 digs to pace the team and Beachy made 11 blocks.
The Vikings head to Owens College Saturday for matches against Hagerstown and Terra State beginning at 12:30 p.m.
