Glen Oaks Community College split a doubleheader at Marian University's Ancilla College on Saturday, dropping Game 1, 3-1, before rebounding with a 6-2 win in Game 2 to close the regular season. The Vikings, with a 30-14 overall record and a 22-8 mark in league play, finished one game behind Lake Michigan College in the final MCCAA Western Conference standings. Glen Oaks had already punched its postseason ticket and qualified for next week's Great Lakes District A Tournament.
Game 1
Both teams were strong in the circle, but Marian Ancilla College used a three-run fifth inning to secure a 3-1 victory over Glen Oaks.
Sophomore pitcher Audrie Dugan (P) started for Glen Oaks and recorded all 18 outs, allowing three runs (none earned) on eight hits while striking out one and walking none. Marian Ancilla broke through in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together a double to center, a double to left, and a single to right—each scoring a run.
Kourtney Zarycki (LF) led Glen Oaks offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Grace Blanchard (SS), Kaidee Gonser (C), and Josie Stephenson (RF) each added a hit as the Vikings totaled six.
Marian Ancilla's starting pitcher earned the win, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits over six innings with four strikeouts. The Chargers received RBIs from Marian Ancilla hitters throughout the fifth-inning rally, while their pitcher also contributed two hits at the plate.
Game 2
Glen Oaks responded in Game 2 with a 6-2 victory, using a big third inning to take control.
Marian Ancilla opened the scoring in the first inning, but Glen Oaks answered in the top of the third with five runs on six hits. The key swing came from Grace Blanchard (SS), who doubled to drive in two runs during the rally.
Glen Oaks added an insurance run in the fourth on a solo home run to left field by Braylyn Hernandez (C). Hernandez, Kaidee Gonser (RF), and Josie Stephenson (LF) combined for five of the team's 10 hits, while Hernandez and Blanchard each drove in two runs.
Freshman Cassie Holland (P) earned the complete-game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
Marian Ancilla collected six hits in the game, with multiple hits from Chargers hitters, and turned two double plays defensively. Glen Oaks also recorded a double play in the win.
