Volleyball Player of the Week: Braylyn Hernandez
Freshman stands out in mid-September.
Burr Oak native Braylyn Hernandez was chosen by the Glen Oaks Community College coaching staff as the Sturgis Bank & Trust Volleyball Player of the Week for a stretch of standout performances to close out the non-conference slate and help the Vikings navigate into MCCAA play.
In two matches last week — a 3-1 win against the Bethel University reserve squad and a 3-1 loss at home to Lansing — Hernandez, a setter, libero and defensive specialst, finished with nine serving aces and led the team by serving at a 94-percent clip.
Hernandez also had a 2.16 serve-receive rating with 31 perfect passes out of 61 attempts. On top of that, she added 31 digs and eight assists for the Vikings.
Glen Oaks travels to Marian University's Ancilla College Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. conference match before returning home to the Doyle Center in Sturgis Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. contest vs. Kellogg.
