Glen Oaks women's basketball falls at Lansing
No. 9-ranked Stars pull away in second half.
A balanced Lansing Community College women's basketball team, which entered the game ranked as the No. 9 program in the country in NJCAA Division II, produced five players in double figures Saturday for a 95-49 victory at home against Glen Oaks to begin league play.
Freshman Tayler Denton scored a game- and career-best 23 points to pace Glen Oaks, which trailed 40-27 at halftime. Denton was 9-for-13 from the field for the game and went 4-from-6 from behind the 3-point line. She finished with two steals, a rebound and an assist.
Sophomore Jordyn Partee ended the game with 10 points, two assists and four rebounds for the Vikings, who dropped to 5-10 overall. The Stars improved to 13-2 overall.
Demi Bolton led LCC with 14 points, followed by Aubreona Smith (13), Ashlynn Putman (12), Tiareyona Holmes (12), and Armonie Smith (10). Lansing shot over 50 percent from the field and went 14-for-17 from the free throw line. The Stars won the rebounding battle 37-24.
Glen Oaks takes the court against Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. game at Marian University's Ancilla College.
