The Glen Oaks Community College softball team improved to 24-10 overall and 16-4 in the MCCAA Western Conference Friday after a pair of wins at Ancilla College. The Vikings now have a three-game lead in the Western Conference.
Game 1
Glen Oaks Community College earned a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Ancilla College on Friday at Ancilla College. The game was tied at two in the top of the ninth when sophomore pitcher Audrie Dugan delivered a go-ahead RBI single to lift the Vikings.
Glen Oaks opened the scoring in the third inning when freshman outfielder/first baseman Kourtney Zarycki doubled to bring home a run. Ancilla answered in the fourth with an RBI single by the Chargers to even the score.
The Vikings regained a 2-1 lead in the seventh as Zarycki delivered another RBI double, but Ancilla responded in the bottom half with a run on a double by the Chargers to tie the game again at 2-2.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman Brooklynn Root started in the circle for Glen Oaks, allowing one run on six hits over 5.1 innings while striking out three. Dugan earned the win in relief.
Glen Oaks totaled 14 hits, led by Zarycki's 4-for-5 performance with two RBIs. Dugan and sophomore infielder/catcher Grace Blanchard each added multiple hits. Ancilla was led by a three-hit performance from the Chargers, while the Chargers added multiple hits from another hitter in the lineup.
Game 2
Glen Oaks Community College completed the sweep with a 13-2 victory over Ancilla College on Friday at Ancilla College.
The Vikings scored three runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Zarycki, a sacrifice fly by freshman infielder Grace Zimmerman, and an RBI single from freshman first baseman/pitcher Hannah Brinks.
Glen Oaks added to its lead in the third with RBI singles from Blanchard and freshman catcher/infielder Elizabeth Flores.
Freshman pitcher/outfielder Cassie Holland earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits over six innings while striking out three and walking three.
The Vikings finished with 16 hits, as Zarycki went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. Zimmerman and freshman infielder Maddy Lewis also recorded two RBIs. Brinks, Blanchard, Flores, and Holland each collected multiple hits. Freshman catcher/outfielder Braylyn Hernandez drew two walks as Glen Oaks totaled six walks in the game and turned one double play.
Ancilla recorded eight hits, with multiple Chargers collecting two hits. The Chargers also turned two double plays.
