Glen Oaks Community College swept a MCCAA Western Conference doubleheader from Lansing Community College on Sunday in Lansing, earning 6-3 and 13-4 victories over the Stars.
Game 1
Glen Oaks Community College opened the day with a 6-3 win behind a complete-game effort from sophomore pitcher Audrie Dugan. Dugan allowed six hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out nine and walking two.
The Vikings broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to take control. Freshman third baseman Grace Zimmerman led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while freshman left fielder Kourtney Zarycki added a hit and an RBI. Freshman first baseman Hannah Brinks contributed a hit and drove in a run, and freshman catcher Kaidee Gonser added two RBIs despite not recording a hit.
Freshman center fielder Cassie Holland and freshman second baseman Maddy Lewis each collected a hit and scored a run. Dugan also helped her own cause with two hits and two runs scored.
Lansing Community College scored single runs in the second and fourth innings to tie the game early but could not keep pace as Glen Oaks pulled away late.
Game 2
Glen Oaks completed the sweep with a 13-4 victory in the second game, using a 16-hit performance to overwhelm Lansing Community College.
Freshman first baseman Hannah Brinks led the way with four hits, including two home runs, and drove in six runs. Freshman catcher/utility Kaidee Gonser added four hits and three RBIs, while freshman outfielder Kourtney Zarycki collected three hits.
Freshman third baseman Grace Zimmerman scored two runs on two hits, and sophomore infielder/catcher Grace Blanchard added a hit and scored twice. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Audrie Dugan homered and drove in a run.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman Brooklynn Root earned the win, allowing four runs (two earned) over 4.1 innings with five strikeouts. Freshman infielder Madi Hosbein closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Glen Oaks broke the game open with a five-run third inning and added six more runs over the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
