GOCC softball sweeps Adrian College Club team
Vikings improve to 6-4
The Glen Oaks Community College softball team claimed two wins Friday on the road against the Adrian College Club Team, improving to 6-4 on the season.
Game 1
Glen Oaks 3, Adrian 2
Both teams received strong pitching performances, but Glen Oaks used timely hitting to secure the win. Freshman pitcher Hannah Brinks started in the circle for the Vikings and recorded 14 outs.
Glen Oaks broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when freshman center fielder Cassie Holland singled to score one run.
Brinks earned the win after allowing two hits and two runs, both unearned, over four and two-thirds innings. The freshman struck out eight and walked three. Freshman pitcher Brooklynn Root closed the game to earn the save.
Sophomore first baseman Audrie Dugan led Glen Oaks at the plate with two hits in three at-bats. Freshman third baseman Grace Zimmerman, Dugan and Holland each drove in a run for the Vikings. Dugan also stole two bases as Glen Oaks finished with three stolen bases.
Adrian was led offensively by Evans, who collected two hits in three at-bats. Grady and Fry each drove in a run for the Bulldogs. Simpson drew two walks as Adrian worked five walks in the contest. The Bulldogs committed no errors, with Allstead recording a team-high 10 chances in the field.
Game 2
Glen Oaks 13, Adrian 3
Freshman left fielder Kourtney Zarycki led the Vikings offensively, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. Zarycki homered in the third and seventh innings.
Adrian opened the scoring in the first inning when Simpson singled to bring home a run.
Glen Oaks tied the game in the second inning when freshman catcher Elizabeth Flores grounded into a fielder's choice.
The Vikings took the lead in the third inning when Zarycki hit a two-run home run to center field to make it 3-1.
Adrian tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a passed ball and a single by Kozel.
Glen Oaks regained the lead in the fourth inning with two runs scored on fly outs to move ahead 5-3.
Zarycki added her second home run of the game in the seventh inning, a two-run shot to center field.
Sophomore pitcher Audrie Dugan earned the win for the Vikings, allowing four hits and three runs, all unearned, over four innings while striking out five and walking three. Freshman pitcher Madi Hosbein pitched three innings in relief to collect the save.
Glen Oaks recorded 18 hits in the game. Freshman center fielder Cassie Holland, freshman third baseman Grace Zimmerman and Zarycki each had four hits. Freshman first baseman Hannah Brinks and Dugan each added multiple hits for the Vikings.
Adrian received hits from Gordan, Grady, Evans, Holmes, Kozel, Fry and Simpson. Kozel and Simpson each drove in a run for the Bulldogs.
