Danville tops Glen Oaks twice in South Carolina

Competing at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Glen Oaks Community College softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday against Danville Area Community College.
Game 1
Danville Area Community College Jaguars 15, Glen Oaks Community College 10
Glen Oaks Community College and Danville Area Community College combined for 25 runs, but the Vikings fell 15-10 in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.
Danville opened the scoring in the first on a groundout by Danville Area Community College.
Glen Oaks answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Grace Blanchard (SS) singled to drive in a run, and freshman Grace Zimmerman (3B) followed with a run-scoring single to give the Vikings a 3-1 lead.
Danville cut the margin in the second on a solo home run.
The Vikings added two more in the bottom of the second when freshman Kourtney Zarycki (LF) doubled to left field to help extend the lead to 5-2.
Danville surged ahead in the third, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 7-5 advantage. The key hit was a two-run single by Danville Area Community College.
Glen Oaks tied the game in the bottom of the third on a double by freshman Hannah Brinks (1B) and an RBI single by freshman Cassie Holland (CF).
The Jaguars broke the game open in the fourth, plating eight runs on five hits. A two-run triple highlighted the inning as Danville built a 15-7 lead.
Sophomore Audrie Dugan (P) started in the circle and allowed 10 runs on 10 hits over three innings. Freshman Brooklynn Root (P) worked one inning in relief, and freshman Madi Hosbein (P) tossed three scoreless innings to close the game.
Glen Oaks totaled 13 hits. Brinks drove in three runs and went 2-for-4. Zimmerman, Brinks, Dugan and Zarycki each collected two hits. Holland drew two walks as the Vikings worked four free passes.
Danville recorded 14 hits and did not commit an error.
Game 2
Danville Area Community College Jaguars 9, Glen Oaks Community College 1
Glen Oaks had difficulty keeping pace in the nightcap, falling 9-1 to Danville Area Community College.
Danville struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single by Danville Area Community College.
The Jaguars extended the lead in the second, scoring three runs on a single, a sacrifice bunt and another RBI single. Danville added one in the third and three more in the fourth to take control.
Glen Oaks' lone run came in the third. Freshman Audrie Dugan (1B) drove in the Vikings' only run of the game.
Freshman Hannah Brinks (P) took the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits over five innings while striking out two and walking one.
Dugan, freshman Maddy Lewis (2B), Zarycki and Brinks each recorded one hit for Glen Oaks. The Vikings drew two walks.
Danville finished with 13 hits. Danville Area Community College's cleanup hitter led the Jaguars with two RBIs and went 2-for-4. Danville Area Community College received multiple hits from four players.
