Vikings top Owens on the road
GOCC men's basketball improves to 5-0.
The undefeated Glen Oaks Community College men's basketball team jumped on host Owens early Tuesday and remained in control the rest of the way en route to a 90-76 nonconference victory.
Akin Smith led the 5-0 Vikings with 18 points, Kelvion Brown poured in 16, Jordan Lomax and Amauri Moore both finished with 15 and Joreim Lomax reached double figures with 12. Smith was a force on the boards, grabbing 12 for the night to end with a double-double.
Glen Oaks built a 46-31 halftime lead and used that cushion to get out of Ohio with a win after a fairly even and competitive second half.
The Vikings shot 54.8 percent from the field and went 10-for-30 from behind the arc. They limited Owens to just 6-of-27 shooting from 3-point land and won the second-chance battle, 17-7.
In total, GOCC outrebounded Owens 52-34. Brown also registered a double-figure night on the glass with 11, Jordan Lomax grabbed six boards and Smith ended the night with seven.
Darius Styles chipped in seven points, three boards and two assists, Marlon Gaitan produced five points, two rebounds and a steal, and Keri Foster finished with two points, two boards and a pair of assists.
Jordan Lomax and Akin Smith both recorded three assists and Moore had two. Smith also paced the squad with two steals. Jordan Pisco added a rebound and a block, and Joreim Lomax had a block and three rebounds.
