Glen Oaks baseball tops Lansing in extras
Vikings get a walk-off double from Nisen in the 10th.
Glen Oaks Community College earned a 10-9 walk-off victory over Lansing Community College on Thursday, winning in 10 innings at home. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the 10th when freshman first baseman Oliver Nisen doubled to score the winning run.
Glen Oaks and Lansing combined for 26 hits in a back-and-forth contest, with the Vikings totaling 17 hits to the Stars' nine.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first inning when sophomore shortstop Caleb Mallory doubled to bring home a run. The Vikings added another in the second on a single by freshman left fielder Vince Gebraad. GOCC extended the lead to 5-1 in the third inning after sophomore center fielder Braeden Becker delivered an RBI single.
Lansing responded in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 6-5 behind a two-run home run and an RBI single. Glen Oaks answered in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore designated hitter Tyler Shisler doubled to tie the game at six.
The Stars took a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning on an RBI double before the Vikings regained the advantage in the bottom of the inning. An error by Lansing and a sacrifice fly from sophomore third baseman Erick Marin pushed Glen Oaks ahead 8-7.
Lansing tied the game again in the ninth inning with a double and a sacrifice fly to force extra innings.
In the 10th, Nisen's fourth hit of the game secured the win for Glen Oaks.
Nisen led the Vikings offensively, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs. Mallory, Marin, Becker, Gebraad, Shisler, and sophomore right fielder Logan O'Malley each recorded multiple hits. Glen Oaks also stole four bases in the game.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher Jayden Sloniker earned the win in relief, allowing four hits and three runs over five innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Freshman pitcher Jacob Jackson started and pitched five innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits with four strikeouts.
Lansing was led by two-hit performances and three RBIs from multiple players, while also swiping five bases in the game.
