Kellogg baseball tops GOCC
Glen Oaks Community College fell 17-8 to Kellogg Community College on Friday in a MCCAA showdown.
Sophomore outfielder Logan O'Malley led Glen Oaks at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles, and two RBIs. The Vikings collected eight hits in the loss, while Kellogg totaled 12 in the high-scoring game.
Kellogg Community College opened the scoring in the first inning with a walk that brought home a run. Glen Oaks answered immediately in the bottom half, taking a 3-1 lead after O'Malley delivered an RBI single and freshman catcher Devon Castro doubled to drive in two runs.
The Bruins seized control in the second inning, erupting for seven runs on three hits to take an 8-3 lead. The key swing came on a three-run home run by Kellogg, part of a decisive frame that flipped the game. Kellogg added to its advantage in the third inning, using a walk, two doubles, and continued pressure at the plate to extend the lead.
Freshman pitcher Jacob Jackson took the loss for Glen Oaks, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on five hits over 2 1/3 innings with eight walks and three strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Jayden Sloniker provided relief, throwing 3 2/3 innings and allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Freshman pitcher Caden Hall and freshman pitcher Christian Smigiel also appeared in relief.
Kellogg's Wolferserger earned the win, tossing 3 2/3 innings while allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, Castro drove in three runs, finishing 1-for-4, while sophomore infielder Caleb Mallory added two hits in four at-bats. Glen Oaks turned one double play defensively.
Kellogg Community College was led by its offense throughout, drawing 12 walks and collecting 12 hits. The Bruins were paced by a 2-for-4 performance from their left fielder, who drove in four runs, while their catcher added three hits. Kellogg's patience at the plate proved pivotal in building and maintaining its lead.
