Southeastern Illinois takes two vs. Glen Oaks
Game 1
Glen Oaks Community College fell to Southeastern Illinois College, 5-4, on Saturday at Southeastern Illinois College on the final play of the game.
Southeastern Illinois College opened the scoring in the second inning when Kaleb Williams induced Stockdale to hit into a fielder's choice, allowing one run to score.
Glen Oaks tied the game in the top of the third after Southeastern Illinois College committed an error. The Vikings took the lead in the fourth when Vince Gebraad singled down the right-field line and Dominic Annerino added a sacrifice fly, each driving in a run to make it 3-1.
Southeastern Illinois College entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-2 before delivering the decisive blow. Southeastern Illinois College doubled to score three runs and secure the 5-4 walk-off victory.
Acevado earned the win for Southeastern Illinois College, allowing two hits and one run over two innings with two walks and no strikeouts. Dornan started and gave up five hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking four. Williams took the loss for Glen Oaks, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with two walks and no strikeouts.
Caleb Mallory and Grant Holroyd each collected two hits for Glen Oaks. Annerino and Braeden Becker drove in one run apiece. The Vikings did not commit an error, and Erick Marin handled a team-high nine chances in the field. Southeastern Illinois College was led by Southeastern Illinois College, who drove in three runs and finished 1-for-1. Griffith added two hits in two at-bats as Southeastern Illinois College turned two double plays.
Game 2
Glen Oaks dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 6-5, on a walk-off error in the bottom of the seventh after the score was tied at five.
The Vikings struck first in the opening inning when Oliver Nisen walked, Logan O'Malley was hit by a pitch, and Holroyd grounded out, each driving in a run to give Glen Oaks a 3-0 lead.
Southeastern Illinois College tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth when Andujar grounded out to bring home a run. Glen Oaks regained the lead in the sixth after Jace Gray hit a sacrifice fly and Marin lined out, each scoring one run to make it 5-3.
Southeastern Illinois College answered in the bottom of the sixth with a single by Hutton and a walk by Stockdale to even the score at five. In the seventh, an error allowed the winning run to score, sealing the 6-5 decision.
Hutton earned the win in relief for Southeastern Illinois College, allowing one hit over one and one-third scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Ryne Maag took the loss for Glen Oaks, giving up one run (unearned) on one hit in one inning. Jayden Sloniker started and pitched five and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs (two earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Lindley started for Southeastern Illinois College and allowed three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking five.
Gray and Nisen each recorded two hits for Glen Oaks, which out-hit Southeastern Illinois College 7-5. O'Malley, Gray, Nisen and Holroyd each drove in one run. Chevere, Stockdale, Andujar, Hutton and Vazquez each had one hit for Southeastern Illinois College. Chevere, Burks, Andujar and Hutton each drove in a run. Andujar stole two bases as Southeastern Illinois College finished with three stolen bases and turned one double play.
Glen Oaks will next travel to Arkansas State University Mid-South Greyhounds on Friday.
