Southeastern Illinois Sweeps Glen Oaks in Friday Doubleheader
Falcons claim 10-7 and 11-10 victories in Harrisburg, Illinois
Southeastern Illinois College swept a Friday doubleheader from Glen Oaks Community College in Harrisburg, Illinois, winning 10-7 in Game 1 and 11-10 in Game 2.
Game 1
Southeastern Illinois 10, Glen Oaks 7
Southeastern Illinois outslugged Glen Oaks 10-7 in the opener, finishing with nine hits to the Vikings' five.
Glen Oaks opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when sophomore Braeden Becker singled to drive in a run as part of a two-hit frame. The Falcons answered in the bottom half, as Burks tied the game at 2-2 with a home run to left field following an eight-pitch at-bat.
Southeastern Illinois took the lead for good in the second inning when Griffith hit a solo home run to left. The Falcons extended the margin in the third with two runs on RBI singles by Segarra and Griffith.
Sophomore Collin Yoder took the loss for Glen Oaks after allowing six runs on nine hits over three innings, striking out none and walking none. Mitchell earned the win for Southeastern Illinois, surrendering four hits and four runs (three earned) over five and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts and four walks. Odsen recorded the save.
Sophomore Logan O'Malley, sophomore Erick Marin, Becker, freshman Oliver Nisen and freshman Grant Holroyd each collected one hit for the Vikings. O'Malley and Holroyd each drove in two runs.
Griffith and Andujar each had two hits for Southeastern Illinois, with Griffith going 2-for-3 and driving in three runs. Andujar stole two bases.
Game 2
Southeastern Illinois 11, Glen Oaks 10
Glen Oaks produced eight hits in the nightcap, but Southeastern Illinois completed the sweep with an 11-10 victory. The Falcons totaled 13 hits in the contest.
Southeastern Illinois struck first on a sacrifice fly by Burks in the bottom of the first inning. Glen Oaks moved in front in the third when an error brought home two runs and a balk added another.
The Falcons regained a 4-3 edge in the bottom of the third after Chevere tripled to score one run and Burks followed with a two-run home run to right field.
Glen Oaks responded with a six-run fifth inning on three hits to take a 9-5 lead. Marin delivered the key blow with a two-run double on an 0-2 count as part of a 3-for-4 performance. Marin doubled in the fifth and seventh innings and singled in the first.
Southeastern Illinois rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits. Chevere singled home one run, Segarra added an RBI single and an error plated two more as the Falcons secured the 11-10 win.
Freshman Jacob Jackson started for Glen Oaks and allowed seven hits and five runs over five innings, striking out 10 and walking two. Sophomore Travis North took the loss in relief, giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits over one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
Rodriguez earned the win for Southeastern Illinois after allowing five hits and six runs (three earned) over four and one-third innings with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Glen Oaks showed patience at the plate with seven walks, as freshman Dominic Annerino and sophomore Caleb Mallory each drew two. Chevere went 3-for-4 to lead Southeastern Illinois, while Burks finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Andujar, Segarra and Hutton each recorded multiple hits.
