Rend Lake baseball takes two vs. Glen Oaks
The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team traveled to Marion, Ill. for a doublheader against Rend Lake Community College Thursday, falling 7-2 and 5-4, at Mtn Dew Park.
Game 1
Rend Lake 7, Glen Oaks 2
With a 3-0 lead through four innings, Rend Lake ratcheted up the offense with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth frames to beat the Vikings in the opener.
Glen Oaks put up two runs in the top of the seventh after Erick Marin led things off with a single, Logan O'Malley doubled and Caleb Mallory singled for an RBI. A Devon Castro sacrifice scored O'Malley, but that was as close as GOCC could get. Jace Gray also had a hit in the game. Rend Lake finished with nine hits.
Ryne Maag went 5 innings for the Vikings, allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits and strikout out two. Drake Graver worked the sixth inning and gave up 2 earned runs and a hit.
Game 2
Rend Lake 5, Glen Oaks 4
The game was tied at 4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Rend Lake's Minton drew a walk, forcing in the winning run.
Glen Oaks out-hit the Warriors 6-5 in the loss. Marin and Becker each collected two hits for the Vikings.
Rend Lake was first to score in the third inning when an error brought home a run.
Glen Oaks took control in the top of the seventh inning. Becker singled down the right-field line, Marin singled to left field and O'Malley singled to right field, and the Warriors committed an error, with each sequence producing a run to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead.
Rend Lake answered in the bottom of the seventh with two doubles to tie the game. The Warriors evened the score at 4 on a double by McKinley.
Lambert earned the win in relief for Rend Lake, allowing three hits and four runs (three earned) over one inning while striking out two and walking three. Jackson took the loss for Glen Oaks. The right-handed pitcher worked 3 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
North started on the mound for the Vikings, allowing two hits and two runs (none earned) over 4 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking one. Massey started for the Warriors and gave up two hits over three scoreless innings, striking out four and walking three.
Marin, Becker and O'Malley each drove in a run for Glen Oaks. The Vikings drew eight walks, with Marin and Gray earning two free passes apiece.
Kavich and Parsons each had two hits for Rend Lake. Minton, McKinley and Parsons each recorded an RBI. McKinley also stole two bases. The Warriors turned one double play.
