Schoolcraft tops Glen Oaks baseball in Game 1
Back-and-forth affair ends in 10-8 Ocelot victory.
Glen Oaks baseball was defeated 10-8 in the first of their two home games Saturday against Schoolcraft College. The contest was a back-and-forth affair with the Vikings falling behind 5-0 after the top of the second inning. GOCC got three runs in the bottom of the second. The Ocelots added one in the top of the third, but the Vikings scored twice in the bottom half to trail only 6-5.
The next scoring was a solo run in the top of the fifth by Schoolcraft. Glen Oaks answered with three runs in the bottom half, taking the lead for the first time at 8-7. The Ocelots tied the game with a solo spot in the sixth, then went back ahead with two in the seventh. Defense sunk the Vikings' chances despite outhitting Schoolcraft 13-6. The five GOCC errors to one Ocelot error played a notable role.
McCullan Greene had four hits and two runs for Glen Oaks. Brody Wardenburg doubled twice and singled, scoring three runs with two RBI. Andrew Thorpe and Peyton Simmons each had two hits with Simmons adding three RBI. Jayden Hamilton threw three walks.
Samuel Dunlavy was the starting pitcher and went 4.2 innings with five hits, seven runs, four earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout. Brady Mescher had the remaining 2.1 innings with one hit, three runs, three earned runs, and four walks.
